Dalhousie Advising Summit

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on December 4, 2024 in News

Join us for the Dalhousie Advising Summit on the Agricultural Campus!

Advising plays an important role in shaping the student experience at Dalhousie. The advising experience bridges both the academic and non-academic sides of the student journey from academic and career planning to fostering a sense of belonging and community. We all have an important role in supporting student success and retention. The more we know about each other's work at Dalhousie, the better our supports can be.

Following the recent survey on advising practices at Dalhousie University, we'd like to extend a warm invitation to theĀ Dalhousie Advising Summit hosted by Student Affairs on December 9th, 1pm ā€“ 3pmĀ in the CA Douglas Boardroom in Cumming Hall.

The Summit will be an opportunity for Faculty andsStaff on the Agricultural Campus, who identify as being in an advising role to provide additional context around advising at Dalhousie. Ā This exciting event builds upon theĀ Third Century PromiseĀ strategic plan to explore how we canĀ enhance student support through a more cohesive and streamlined approach to undergraduate advising.

This work is even more important given our current enrolment context, and strategic focus on Student Success under our emerging Strategic Enrolment Management Framework.Ā

The summit will be an opportunity for those that identify as being in an advising role to:Ā

  • share the results of the student and advisor surveysĀ
  • identify opportunities to strengthen undergraduate advising at DalhousieĀ
  • foster a network of advising to share best practices and facilitate ongoing collaboration

What to expect as a participant:Ā

  • Presentation from facilitators and sharing of advising survey data
  • Small and large group discussionsĀ Ā
  • Idea generation for the future of advising at DalhousieĀ Ā
  • Potential use of digitally interactive feedback tools Ā

Our hope is to bring together as many people who see their role as supporting students to create a more coordinated and impactful advising continuum, ultimately benefiting the success of our students and supporting advisors through the development of a framework that builds on existing advising strengths and fosters an enhanced institution-wide commitment to academic advising.
