In late January, a royal celebration and recognition made its way to campus.
Beginning last May and continuing into this year, 30,000 Canadians are being honoured with King Charles III Coronation Medals. Marking the coronation of King Charles to the throne in 2023, the medals are intended to recognize individuals who 鈥渉ave made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.鈥�
Ceremonies are happening across the country, recognizing a wide range of Canadians in all fields and disciplines. But the January 31 ceremony was notable for Dalhousie in ways beyond simply its setting in the Macdonald Building's University Hall room.
For one, the medals were being presented by Canadian Senator Dr. Stan Kutcher, who served as the Sun Life Financial Chair in Adolescent Mental Health and a faculty member in Dal鈥檚 Department of Psychiatry prior to being appointed to the Senate. And many of those individuals recognized were Dalhousie researchers, administrators, and alumni.
鈥淭hese distinguished individuals have made outstanding contributions to our province and beyond, demonstrating excellence in fields such as health care, research, education, and public service,鈥� said Dr. Kutcher in announcing the recipients. 鈥淭heir dedication and hard work have made a significant impact on the lives of those around them, and they serve as an inspiration to us all.鈥�
